Worsening situation in Jerusalem (29/10/2009)
He reiterated the importance of all sides acting to calm tensions.
He also expressed his serious concern about the continued and unacceptable evictions of Palestinian families in East Jerusalem and assured Prime Minister Fayyad that we would continue to press the Israeli authorities to desist from such provocative and illegal actions.
The Foreign Secretary also condemned the Hamas statement on 28 October, calling for Palestinians to boycott the January elections in Gaza and threatening redress for those who did not. This betrays the Palestinians in Gaza who have suffered so much in the past year.
